Lightweight Bike & Bike+ Bottom Bracket

This is a follow up to a previous review because I can't see how to edit it. Support is fantastic. I emailed them about the issue and they are sending me a replacement. I already installed the Vortex BB I bought a few years ago when the Peloton repair tech said they don't last. ...so now I'm at least riding again. I have always put threaded things together with a little grease on the threads and this BB was no exception. I guess you have to install it dry because the Loctite won't work on greased threads. No instruction on use of Loctite but I like grease especially on a Peloton where sweat gets into everything and crystallizes. Not thrilled that the design relies on Loctite but it is what it is. I like that the bearings are better so when the Vortex BB dies I will replace again. The threads have since been thoroughly cleaned with Acetone and Brake Cleaner with a brush (about 10 passes on each side). ...and from now on BB installations will go in dry. If you notice it loosening up stop riding immediately. I tried to clean the threads and reinstall but there was a lot of drag because after it loosened up, the non-concentric nature of how it was spinning while loose seems to have damaged it. Also worth noting, the Vortex BB is no longer available on Amazon for about $30. Some company named PeloSmith is now handling the price gouging, selling them at $100. ...so you may as well just get a better one from ThePeloDoctor for a bit more. I will say it again though, customer service replied quickly and was VERY cooperative and helpful. I can't think of a better customer experience I've ever had.

Normally on the drive side there is a flange and you tighten the flange up against the BB shell. Not with this one. You tighten the right side until it carves into the shell. Then on the left side there’s no lock ring. Seems like the loctite is all that holds it after tightening (or doesn’t hold it). After an hour ride and then a 45 minute ride it all loosened up. Now I have to tear it all apart again. What a ______ mess!!! If they reply back with a solution great. Otherwise, this is just a headache that you pay extra for. Watch for a response and skip this bottom bracket and just go with the crappy one on Amazon.

Kit came with new screws, locking compound and custom wrench. No instruction though. Worked fine post installation. Not sure why billed a foreign fee as it shipped from upper new York that was strange. But in the end part fit and workes.

I went all out and got a new bottom bracket and the specialty tool kit. As a bike mechanic I find that a job is easier to do when you have all the right tools and they give you everything in one kit. I'm sure I will need a bottom bracket again so I will only be using the pelodoctor!
